Mirzapur 2 is all about power dynamics, greed, and terrifyingly gory scenes. After Mirzapur Season 1 ended, fans wanted more and were completely sucked into the revenge saga that surrounds this town. With Season 2, the question is whether the viewers will be satiated.

Munna Tripathi (Divyendu) completely believes he is now immortal, and this is definitely to the chagrin of his father, Kaleen Tripathi (Pankaj Tripathi). Guddu (Ali Fazal) is bigger, darker, and starting to develop a mind of his own. Shalu (Shweta Tripathi) is starting to pave a new path for herself while Dimpy (Harshita Shekhar Gaur) continues to develop another layer to her character as well – all with revenge at the core of the series. For the uninitiated, the series also stars other phenomenal actors including Rasika Dugal, Khulbushan Kharbanda, Sheeba Chadha, and Rajesh Tailang, amongst many more.

Now, the producers released 2 episodes for early viewing and now the series is all out so this is an early review. The comments I make are strictly based on the first two episodes. The best thing I can say so far is that, based on the first two episodes, I definitely want to watch more. What works for me in this series, which is so much better than the first, is that the female characters have much more of a character graph. Each one leaves us intrigued about their next move. Each one says so much with their silences, their eyes, and quite frankly, it is them that hold my heart on finding out how the rest of the series will unfold.

Kudos to the Director of Photography, Sanjay Kapoor, as he captures the gore in the writing. There are a few things I hope are better in this series, and the emotional arcs built into some scenes make me feel that beyond the gore, there will be some more soul in this series. This seems to stem from the writing which so far, seems stronger than the first season. There are also some spine-chilling moments, particularly one in the second episode, that showcase the ruthlessness that is attached to power hungry people. Looking forward to watching the rest for now. Along with the females, Pankaj Tripathi and Divyendu Sharma deliver some chilling moments.

For now, it’s a 3/5.
