Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Sathyaraj, Tamannaah, Nassar and Ramya Krishnan
Why did Kattappa kill Baahubali? The question that has hounded us for over two years will finally see a conclusion. However two years is a long time to fester curiosity! Does BAHUBALI 2 live up to the hype cause we all know, we haven’t thought much else since the time the teaser for THE CONCLUSION released! Those of you who don’t want the spoilers but just want to know whether it is worth the wait…. Read up!
Before we start making comparisons between the two parts, let’s not forget BAHUBALI caught us off guard. By the time we realized what hit us between the eyes we were terribly curious about #WKKB (admit it, most of us who saw the Hindi version got caught in the whirlwind that the social media created more than the effect of the film we experienced…) so we’re back in the theatres waiting to be satiated!
To give you the headsup on the situation in Mahishmati, where it all happens – Amarendra Bahubali (Prabhas) needs to know the whole truth behind his father (once again, Prabhas)’s death and of course, needs to avenge his mother Devasena (Anushka Shetty)’s incarceration and dethrone his cousin and nemesis, Bhalla (Rana Daggubati). So obviously the narrative oscillates between past and present. Making it grander visually by the change in period and the change in looks of each of the actors, BAHUBALI 2 successfully keeps the suspense and builds an engrossing storyline that doesn’t get lost in the glitz.
Talking of expectations, BAHUBALI 2 faces a tall order - for the most part, it lives up to the hype but it doesn’t end there. In experiencing THE CONCLUSION, we are mostly enamored by the grandeur but it is while writing about that experience, we realize how we didn’t only experience THE CONCLUSION, we felt it.
The budgets which were grand to begin with managed to get gargantuan - consequently, the scale of the film, the action sequences, and the hype surrounding it also became larger than life! But personally for me, the beauty of THE CONCLUSION lies in the team as a whole and its individual players. It is during the journey of BAHUBALI you realize that while the first part was all about how a common man turned out to be BAHUBALI, THE CONCLUSION is how each of the team members come out to being a bahubali in their own right.
Let’s take Anushka Shetty for instance. She had to outdo the chemistry between Prabhas and the gorgeous Tamanaah. Not easy because Tammy is everyone’s sweetheart. But she delivered and how! Not only did she better the chemistry, she ensured we hardly missed seeing Miss Sunshine, Tamannaah, who is barely there in THE CONCLUSION. For Rana Duggabati, he had to outdo Prabhas! Being the baddie, he obviously had to accept defeat but not before he declared himself the Bahubali amongst the Greek Gods… all those who saw his tunic rip off in the midst of the war will agree! Prabhas for better, followed up on what Rana started and waged a war on our hormones while he took Rana down, dazzling us as Bahubali as efficiently as he did in part one! But we were all expecting that, thus making director Rajamouli the ultimate Bahubali… I always say it is far easier to make a good film than it is to make a ‘better’ film. While Bahubali waged a war against Bhalla, Rajamouli’s war was against himself… irony being while he managed to defeat himself in grandeur, he did lose a few points for not surprising us enough.
All the energies in BAHUBALI 2 magnificently concentrate on making it a spectacular experience, you come out of the theatre part dazed, part charged… but while the adrenaline is racing, emotionally, you come out with nothing - zilch!
