Akshay Kumar has increasingly been seen in both mindless comedies but films that leave a huge impact, including the recent Gabbar is Back. This time around however, there was much conversation about Airlift and what would come with it.

Akshay Kumar plays the role of Ranjit Katyal, who is a shrewd businessman, rubbing shoulders with the best of the best in Kuwait. His wife, Amrita Katyal, played by Nimrat Kaur, lives happily along with her husband and her daughter. But when Iraq invades Kuwait on August 2nd, 1990, Ranjit realizes the impact on him – particularly when he watches his driver murdered in front of his own eyes. He, along with some of his friends, organize a camp for those seeking refuge.

The unique aspect to this film is the degree of closeness Writer-Director Raja Krishna Menon had to this topic. His relatives went through this crisis. His direction in this film is seamless, and he has really made himself a force to reckon with after Airlift. The writing, the script, the screenplay are without flaw – and that is always difficult when you have a film that is based on reality. The dialogues are gripping. The cinematography is exactly right. The background score, the music, can almost be described as a character of the film, given how integral it becomes to the different moods in the film. If you think of a perfect film, it may be this one – because along with everything else, the acting is the finest…ever.

This is easily Akshay Kumar’s best performance. His acting is realistic, heart-warming, gripping, and just so impactful. You feel his passion for this film in your own soul as a viewer. If he does not end up with many accolades at the end of this year, I would be shocked. Now, Nimrat Kaur is not somebody the Indian audiences are too familiar with but man, does she stand out effectively as well. Of note is her confrontation with Prakash Belawadi’s character in the film. Purab Kholi as Ibrahim Durrani is top-notch. He is a complementary figure to Akshay Kumar’s character. The rest of the cast is exactly right for their roles in the film.

This may be the one of the most perfect film I have watched. You have to watch this.
