A Quarantine Q&A with Pranati Rai Prakash

The world first saw her bag the coveted winner title of India's Next Top Model in 2016. She transitioned into being in front of the camera gradually as she’s given us some meaty roles to chew on in films and web series. She is all set to show us her acting chops again in Cartel, which stars Rithvik Dhanjani. We took the opportunity (while the world is on pause) to catch up with her.

You started off your career in modeling, transitioning into acting. Was it a natural transition for you or did you become interested in acting after becoming a model?

Acting has always been one of my favourite things to do. It makes me feel liberated and live every moment. So does modelling. I started clearing auditions alongside modelling and bagged my various acting projects and gradually transitioned into a full time actor.

It is so tough to make it in the entertainment industry. What was your mantra?

I think it is difficult to carve a niche for oneself in the entertainment industry because of the tough competition. My mantra is to keep working hard, stay true to one’s originality and keep patience.

What was the lowest low for you and how did you cope with it?

There have been many lows but I make things fine with my enthusiastic nature and high spirit. The best way is to travel and disconnect from the worries of uncertainty, rather focus on exploring and living each moment.

What has been your highest high?

I feel a high every time I call myself an actor. I remember I was doing an acting workshop and someone asked me if I was an actor and I said, “Not yet...” I’ve worked hard to be deserving of it and bagging good acting projects gives me the highest high.

After Love Aaj Kal, and your web series, Mannphodganj Ki Binny, your next is Cartel. Can you tell us a little bit about that project?

It is a story of a girl transitioning into adulthood whose life is faced by unprecedented challenges and her journey from breaking down to rising to the occasion and taking charge of her responsibilities.
